Infants

We know entrusting child care for your baby is one of every parent’s most important choices and it can be very difficult. We are here to partner with you and provide a warm, nurturing environment for your little one to feel supported and loved. The foundation of learning at this age is responsiveness to the child’s routines and caregiving.

The infant curriculum allows infants to explore and learn through play and discovery. Each child is assigned a primary caregiver who is responsible for one-to-one moments of caring, play and communication. We work with you to provide a personalized care plan to support your child’s schedule, nutritional and any unique needs. We read aloud daily, expose children to arts and outdoor time, weather permitting.

Sign language (infants/toddlers) – communication is key to understanding the needs of a child. When a child can communicate at an early age what they need, it greatly reduces their stress and frustration, and yours, as you know how to help them! At Little Journeys, starting in our infant classroom, we teach children basic sign language from; eat, milk, water, more, all done, play, sleep, book, please and thank you.

Toddlers

Toddlers make big developmental leaps and we are here to support your child as they test their new skills, encounter new experiences, and learn to make friends. The toddler program is very similar to the infant program with the exception of implementing a schedule and routine for your child. Schedules and routines are crucial for children’s development. They help establish predicable patterns in their day which provides a sense of stability and security. Routines also support children’s social, emotional and academic development by promoting self-regulation, independence and confidence.

Through the units of study children are able to explore topics that are tangible, relevant, relatable and meaningful. The activities through the day are multi-sensory, hands on and play based. Play is important for young children to develop self-regulation and promote concentration, language, cognition and social competence. It also makes learning fun!

Young Preschool & Pre-K

We embed science, technology, literacy, art, math and social studies into our activities. The curriculum fosters creativity, problem solving and independence, and teaches children how to care for one another. At Little Journeys, we also feel it is important to foster a child’s curiosity. It is this inherent interest which engages and motivates children to learn and makes learning a fun experience. Teachers challenge children by assisting them in tasks that are slightly above their developmental abilities, enabling the child to feel a sense of accomplishment and desire to learn more.

Our goal is to prepare every Little Journeys graduate with the social, emotional and educational skills they need to be successful in school and in life. Our teachers strive to create an enthusiasm that instills a lifelong love of learning. Setting a solid foundation where children know how to communicate, socialize, critically think and problem solve is essential and at the core of our curriculum.

The day is structured around different types of instruction, activities and play. The instruction will vary in size from large group, small group and individual. We like to start and end each day as a whole class with group circle time. This time provides opportunities lead by the teacher to explore new topics and summarize our learning of the day. As a group we also have fun singing, playing games and reading stories. Whether in large or small groups, the children are engaged in activities that grow their knowledge and understanding in science, mathematics, social studies, literacy and art. Each activity is fun and engaging, supporting a child’s creativity and fine motor development.

Play is also an important part of our curriculum and for the development of a young child. During free play children can explore the different stations of the classroom and choose an activity of their choice and liking. These opportunities provide language and social-emotional development, along with growth in creativity and imagination.

Through all activities of the day, our goal at Little Journeys is to instill a love of learning ❤️

Our curriculum utilizes the Early Childhood Standards of Quality, published by the Michigan State Board of Education. These standards provide a formwork of developmentally appropriate outcomes for each age group and focuses on the whole child by addressing a child’s social emotional, physical, cognitive and language development.
